It’s that time of year again! You got it…TESTING! Junaluska Elementary School is getting geared up for the upcoming End of Grade tests (EOG). On May 6th at 7:55am, we began skits to encourage ten major testing tips such as staying focused, eat a good breakfast, get a good night’s sleep, check over your work, etc. Grade level teachers, Kindergarten through 5th grade, plus our support staff, cafeteria staff, custodians, and office staff, were involved in these skits over the ten day period until May 19th. These skits were amazing! Watching these skits performed by the staff helps students remember these test-taking tips. After all the skits had been performed, we had a school-wide pep rally to get the students “pumped” for testing! The theme of the pep rally was “It’s Time to Shine.” Our gym was totally blacked out except for black lights and party lights on the stage. The children dressed in shiny, glowing, or sparkling clothes. Each student was given a flashlight key and a glow bracelet. Each grade level worked on a cheer, song, or presentation for another grade level. These were spectacular! After the performances we reviewed the ten test-taking tips. Mrs. Arrington, our principal, shared two videos to remember during testing.
At the very end, we shouted, “It’s Time to Shine on the EOGs!” What a sight! The gym had little beams of light everywhere! The children were so excited. We know that Junaluska will “Shine” on June 1st when testing begins.
